I can go crazy if I’m let loose in the clearance section at Target. But, when it comes to high ticket items, I put a great deal of thought into my purchases. After a couple of visits with Matthew, a very helpful Sales Associate at the Gucci store at the Mall at Short Hills, I decided on this luscious, red GG Marmont small shoulder bag, which I absolutely adore!

Typically, I don’t go for red, but something about this bag won me over. Perhaps its elegance, and versatility (one can wear it as a clutch or crossbody) and the adorable heart detail on the back. I love that this piece can go with the casual outfit I wore upon purchasing it as equally well as it could with professional or cocktail attire.

As I’m navigating my midlife rediscovery, I’ve realized that many items in my wardrobe that I once loved, I now don’t relate to at all. For some time, I loved bright colors, patterns and bold, eye-catching pieces. Now, I find that I gravitate towards more of what one might call staple pieces, befitting of a capsule wardrobe – solids, items with texture, and an element of sophistication.

Further, as my body continues to change as I experience a whole host of peri-menopause related symptoms, I embrace the idea of working with my current shape – not against it. Currently, I consider myself a work in progress as I endeavor to shed some pounds and more importantly get in better shape by working with a personal trainer. That said, even during this transitory period, I still need to outfit myself in a way that reflects who I am, and my shape now.

So, for this current phase in my transition, I have relied on leveraging discounts at places like Nordstrom Rack. That’s where I purchased the 7 For All Mankind jeans that I wore when I purchased the Marmont.

Luckily, I don’t have to worry about size when it comes to the Marmont!
